Employing and empowering people.
Drop in centres for people struggling with homelessness can be a tough environment for a chair. They need to contribute to creating a sense of home while at the same time have a high degree of durability and functionality more akin to institutional chairs.
People struggling with homelessness need a sense of self worth and an opportunity so often denied them. Community For Opportunity was designed to pair these 2 realities—design a chair for drop-in centres, and employ the clients of drop-ins to make them.
The chair is a medium density stacking chair with a wood shell and steel base. It is a warm chair, a chair that is comfortable and inviting while at the same time durable, stackable and well priced. It is also a chair that is easy to assemble and impossible to assemble incorrectly.
Through a partnership with Salvation Army Gateway and Street Soccer Canada, Community For Opportunity was born and these chairs are available for purchase.
